In June 2007, the NIH began a months-long examination of its current peer review system, with the stated goal "of optimizing its efficiency and effectiveness, and to ensure that the NIH will be able to continue to meet the needs of the research community and public-at-large" (see http://enhancing-peer-review.nih.gov/). After consulting with the research community and other relevant stakeholders, the NIH has proposed (and in some cases, has already implemented) changes—big and small—that will have an effect on every NIH grant applicant, on every scientist who serves on an NIH study section, and on the future of biomedical research funding in the United States. Come hear about these changes—and share your views and concerns—with these leaders of the NIH effort, who serve as co-chairs of the Advisory Committee to the NIH Director (ACD) Working Group on Peer Review.
