• Public Affairs Recognition
Almost every year since 1994, AAI has presented a Public Service Award (PSA). The PSA is bestowed annually on "individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the advocacy and support of basic biomedical and immunologic research" and who have "distinguished themselves in such diverse fields as public affairs and policymaking, journalism and scientific writing, scientific research, research administration, minority recruitment and education in the sciences, and disease research advocacy."
AAI presented its 2013 Public Service Award to Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL) (presented by AAI Committee on Public Affairs Chair Elizabeth Kovacs) and Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-CT, 3rd) (presented by AAI President Marc Jenkins).
The AAI Public Affairs Recognition Award is intended to recognize the important contributions of those who work "behind the scenes" but who play crucial roles in advancing biomedical research.
